Mapped network drive connection has failed
There are 2 computers in this system. The one at the front is the host so to speak for the back office system. The one in the back connects through a mapped network drive setup.
That connection has failed. I tried to make a new one but it failed to connect also and was rejected.
I have rebooted the router and both computers. No joy there either.
This is making me look bad to my boss. Help!?

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
What's the permissions set to? Is there any users/groups added in?
Can you ping the PC's by its IP? Can you check if the host has the same credentials as the Back office system? (Account beloging to the Users group that is set up in the back office permissions)

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
It was working until this morning when the GM came in and fired up the back office system.
I'm waiting on the tech support to get back to me. It's letting him on the internet but the connection to the front desk is broke.
I can see all items that are on the local network including the front and back systems and the network printer. And the router. I know the firewall was off when I set up the mapped drive. Now it's on. Don't ask me how. You tell me and we'll both know.
I guess I'll have to run the SAM file hacker program and get in from that end. Something has turned on the firewall and is blocking the connection to the mapped drive.

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
Maybe one of the emplyees thought they did something good to turn it on, but they might have messed with it too.

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
You can't turn it on or off or make any adjustments to it from the user account. It's whited out when you access it.
I think some one was opening junk mail and sucked down a bug. I've never seen a bug enable the firewall. But stranger things have happen at this place with these computers.

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
What you can do is temporarily allow Everyone almost to Full control, while you scan for viruses/spywares, along with a sfc /scannow

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
Some one from another property came along and changed the admin password. They screwed up, and that's being polite, what they thought was their password. They have no clue. I am stuck. And now I have to fix it. But I have some software to fix the password issue. So after being able to get in to the admin account I'll run some deep scans. Clean off the junk and reset the parental controls back like I had them.
Then fixing the connection to the mapped drive will be a snap.
Talked to the tech support guy. He can ping from the front to the back but not from the back to the front. And guess what? he needs to be able to get in to the front desk admin account. Here's hoping that the SAM program goes off with out a hitch.

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
The password smasher as I call it, worked just great. Now all the passwords are gone.
We went ahead and got the maintanance contract renewed so in the morning I'm going to let them remote in and see what's up from the front desk.
I have to tell ya I was chewing my nails off running the password smasher program. I have the worst luck sometimes and I was sure this was going to be one of those times. But it worked and after running some checks on the front desk software, I see no ill effects.
I'm all happy now.

Re: Mapped network drive connection has failed
I couldn't find the program Buzz gave me but I did find one in another thread here that did the job. The commands are a little cryptic but if you take your time and read them carefully, you'll be fine.

Is Buzz's program call Active Password Reset?
